Classical Ballet From pre-school to adult levels, students learn the basic elements and foundations of the Vagonova technique. On the Elemental level, young children learn to enjoy movement via a fun curriculum especially designed for children 3 to 5 years of age. In the foundational level, students 6 and up learn the basics of technique. Focus is on strength and clean execution of exercises and choreographed phrases. Foundations students who successfully progress through the 5th level may be considered for beginning pointe work. At the Advanced and Pre-Professional levels, students perfect their technique through a more intensive program. They learn and perform variations from world renown classical ballets, begin choreography of their own works and have opportunities to compete and study abroad. Adult classes include stretch and strengthen exercises to help students better tone their bodies.
Contemporary Dance These classes introduce students to a new level of self expression that is more grounded and open ended than ballet. Through contemporary dance, students learn the basic elements that make up dance. Using the foundations of the Horton technique, students learn about the various styles of contemporary dance, the people and social issues that contributed to its evolution, and the choreographic process.
Jazz The many contributions to this uniquely American dance form, from Vaudeville to streets, are studied and experienced. Students learn various styles of Jazz dance, from beginning to advanced levels in these high energy, fast moving classes.
Tap Another uniquely American art form with its roots in Irish and African Step Dance, Tap Dance engages students in a high energy creative process like no other. After learning the basic elements of all tap styles, students learn to express themselves more fully through the Juba style, which helps the grow in strength, agility and creativity, while teaching them the cultural significance of tap dance.
Explore Dance Perfect for the student who wants to try a little of everything, this is a dance education class specifically designed to give a broad view of various dance genres, styles and costumes. Students will finish the year with an understanding of the elements of dance, basic movements of various dance genres, music that influences various kinds of dance, how dance is notated, as well as the significance of dance in various societies and cultures.
Ballet Conditioning Designed to help students improve the core strength, alignment, and flexibility needed for dance. Students are taught to become aware of their own physical abilities and limitations so that they can approach dance technique confidently and safely. This class is perfect for older beginning dancers, injured dancers, athletes, the elderly, and those with mild developmental delays, as most exercises are done on the floor and there is never any jumping. |
